Microsoft Word 2007 - Importing files
Word (Microsoft Office Word 2007) allows users to import a range of text documents, including text files (.txt) and rich text files (.rtf).
In this tutorial, we will look at an easy way to import an .rtf document by clicking on the file directly.
The same method can be used to import .txt and .csv files.
Using Windows Explorer, locate the file you wish to import into Word and right-click on the file.

Use your mouse to navigate to the "Open with" menu and select "Microsoft Office Word".

If this is the first time you have opened a .rtf or .txt file in Word using this method, "Microsoft Office Word" may not be available. In such a case select Choose default program... which will allow you to secify Word as an option.
Clicking on Choose default program... will open "Open with" window. Click on browse to open the Explorer window.

You will need to find the "Program Files" folder which is most likely located in the C drive. Open the "Program Files" folder and navigate to the "Microsoft Office" folder. Open the subfolder "Office12" and select the file "WINWORD.EXE".

Now click on the "Open" button which will return you to the "Open with" window.

Ensure that "Microsoft Office Word" is select and tick the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" box.
Select the "OK" button and Word will import the document.
